Coronavirus: MWC Barcelona 2020 Officially Cancelled

Mobile-World-Congress

The Mobile World Congress, will not be opening its doors this year. The coronavirus threat is looming and the GSMA, the association in charge of its organization, has finally decided to cancel it.

No MWC Barcelona this year. It's official, the GSMA, the association of mobile phone operators and manufacturers that organizes the event, has just published a press release to announce its firm and final decision.

The GSMA president, John Hoffman, realized that it was impossible to hold the show under the current circumstances.

"Considering the duty to ensure the safety and smooth running of the event, the GSMA has decided to cancel the Barcelona 2020 MWC because of all the potential risks of coronavirus contamination."

The show was scheduled to start on February 24th, but as the days passed, more and more players in the mobility industry canceled their attendance.

This will certainly not prevent brands from holding videoconferences and making some announcements through other means.

This is all the more likely as the year 2020 must be the year of the massive arrival of 5G. The stakes are therefore enormous.

This is the first time in thirty-three years that this fair, which has not always been held in Barcelona and has already changed its name several times, has been canceled.

The GSMA hopes to be able to organize a trade fair under better conditions next year and still in Barcelona.
