ATO website struggling as thousands attempt to lodge tax returns
The Australian Tax Office website has crashed this morning as thousands of people attempt to lodge tax returns on the first day of the new financial year.
Users reported experiencing delays when accessing the website, with some receiving a message notifying them of a high volume of traffic causing lengthy wait times.

"We understand significant number of people need to access our online services. We are proactively managing our online traffic so that systems continue to be available," the message said.
The first day of the new financial year has also collided with the second wave of early release of superannuation, placing further presser on the ATO online systems.
Already, 2.3 million Australians have dipped into their retirement savings to get through the COVID crisis.
From today, thousands of people will be able to pull out a further $10,000 from their super.
People have taken to social media posting videos and photos of the website struggling to load.
