Flooding in Newport Beach Friday night showed why the city and parts of Orange County are under a high surf advisory until Monday.
In the Balboa neighborhood, the water was so high, on some streets cars’ tires disappeared under the water. A lifeguard was also hospitalized with undisclosed injuries after saving a teen's life at the Balboa Pier.
Streets of Newport Beach flooded after high surf advisory issued
At the corner of Balboa and Seventh Street, the water just kept coming while families stood on their porches.
Several people were getting ready to celebrate the 4th of July when they saw all the water start coming over the sand and into their garages, homes and streets.
The waves were high and strong, they could be heard crashing even from a block or two away.
Some people crowded at the beach because they saw a sailboat get rocked and destroyed by the waves. At least two men got off that boat and were treated by paramedics on the scene. They appeared to be uninjured.
Lifeguards were seen wrapping blankets around people on the beach.
There were no immediate reports of evacuations or injuries.
